The Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) Christmas Train has once again filled the holiday season with magic, marking its 26th edition. This year, the first stop occurred in Saint John, New Brunswick, marking the train’s first visit to this coastal city. During its stay in Saint John, the train offered a free live concert featuring the James Barker Band and singer Clerel, who energized the crowd from a stage decorated with Christmas-themed designs. A young attendee, Dani Albert, described the experience as “a 10 out of 10.”
The main purpose of this initiative is to support food banks. Since its inception in 1999, the CPKC Christmas Train has raised more than $24.3 million and 5.3 million pounds of food. At each stop, the organization directly donates to a local charity. In the case of Saint John, the beneficiaries were the food banks supported by the Harbour Lights campaign, an organization that has raised more than $3.8 million over 27 years of work.
Paula Copeland, president of Harbour Lights, emphasized the event’s importance to the community and thanked CPKC for its generosity. Thursday night exceeded expectations, raising over $32,000 and more than 5,000 pounds of food for local families.
The CPKC Christmas Train will travel to various cities until its final destination in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, on December 20. This festive icon brightens the holiday spirit and reinforces the message of solidarity and mutual support during these special times.
